Rhode Island

Last Thursday we woke up and said Lets go to Rhode Island! So we did. And hot dang! what a great idea that was. Turns out Newport, Rhode Island is pretty much the mansion capitol of the world. I don't know if that's technically true, but it's known for it's historic mansions from the Gilded Age from such prominent families as The Vanderbilts {said with a rolling 'r'} and the other Vanderbilts...yeah, they liked to build mansions. We took a couple of tours and seriously these houses make Cribs look like a shack show. We also enjoyed the beach, swimming, eating out and the feeling of joy that can only come from making a spontaneous decision and watching it unfold perfectly. Here are some pictures.

Front gate of The Breakers--the biggest and most popular Newport mansion.

Chillin' in Newport {which is a cool town even without the mansions. It was founded in 1639. Take that west coast!}

The beach. {Beanie kept insisting on seeing whales. We had to tell her they were sleeping.}

The whole fam dam.

Shell hunting.

Such a perfect weekend getaway. Hope you had a great weekend as well, and if you ever get the chance, check out Newport.

  1. I absolutely love Newport! So glad you enjoyed it too.

  2. That was Molly....

  3. we love Rhode Island, too!! Such a perfect state! My favorite is Providence, but there are so many beautiful towns. Check out "The Great Gatsby" with Robert Redford if you get homesick for Newport. (Most of the movie was filmed there:)

  4. Love those mansions! You should go down there during Christmas time---they REALLY do them up right!

    You must live here in New England then?
