Cruel and Unusual

We've been doing a bit o' traveling as of late...visiting family and such. On our first visit--a little day trip--we took Beanie to see our Grandma (her Great Grandma). We took the pack 'n play so she could nap while we were there. As usual we found the darkest, quietest place we could for her midday slumber. The walk in closet. When we mentioned this to our family there was a look of shock and dismay and a joking reference to child abuse. You put her in the closet??? Sure did. She naps better in the dark and it's a WALK IN closet.

Not a cellar.
Not a crawl space.
Not a sink hole.

A closet. In NYC that's called a second bedroom.

Then we did a little air travel. On the airplane we put Beanie down to sleep on the floor under our feet. (Don't worry we put a blanket on the floor first). And there she snoozed happily for an entire hour! This may have been our most brilliant moment of parenting yet. However, we received a few concerned looks from our fellow passengers. More than 1 flight attendant asked Wait a minute...where's the baby? then proceeded to drop their jaws when we pointed to our slumbering babe under our feet. (After the initial surprise I think they found our method rather inventive and refreshing).

But seriously what's with the judgement and you're-worse-than-Brittany glares? As most parents will attest a well rested child is a happy child. This may call for some creative sleeping solutions, but in the end she's just sleeping. It's not like we let her little toes get run over by the drink cart or anything (that was a close one). Sheesh...calm down people.

  6. Brilliant! I have gotten a lot of concerned looks when I put my baby to sleep in a bathroom. In his car seat usually, sometimes in a pack n play.

  8. hey, amen sisah! and can i just say that your suggestion to put a blanket over the pack n' play while sleeping in a hotel room is the best piece of adice i've recieved since becoming a mother? so let them glare, nothing beats good sleep! and as you've witnessed my kid lays and plays on tables while we're eating in restaurants - nothing makes him happier!
