Saturday Extravaganza

My sweet lil' hubbers is really good at giving me my much needed mom breaks.  Always willing to let me get some time to myself when our schedules align to make these occasions possible and I really appreciate it. However, a few hours here and there is only good for so much--grocery shopping sans kid, Target runs and quick shopping sprees are pretty much the bread and butter of my "me" time.  So I told hubby that I wanted a day to myself.  A WHOLE day.  One whole day from sun up to sun down where I was completely baby free.  No changing diapers, no feeding, no cleaning up after and no schlepping to and fro with kid in tow.  (I realize this means no cuddles and kisses as well, but it's one measly day right?)  I'll most likely break down and call 20 times before deciding I miss her too much and want to come home and just play with her, but I'm going to give it a shot.  We looked at the calendar and dubbed this Saturday my Saturday Extravaganza o' Fun!  Yippe!

Problem.  I'm not sure what to do.  I've thought about taking day trip to see something cool around the area or at least finding something really, really cool and different like I never get to do.  I've also thought about just doing some maxin' and relaxin'...strolling around town, going to lunch, maybe hitting up a movie, mani/pedi and then some shopping...but I can't decide!  Help me...what should I do?  I need suggestion sand quick.  I've got 24 hours to pull this together and I don't want to waste my day...HELP!

  1. Go all out. Mani/pedi/massage followed by a shopping spree to Anthro and H&M.

  4. So fun to see you as a mom! When my kiddos are at school I always hit the stores with the narrow aisles that are impossible with strollers or anyplace with fragile things that I could spend hours looking at. Have fun. A day to yourself sounds luxurious!

  5. I suggest a good cafe for dessert - Cafe Lalo on the UWS has about a million - YUM! (I think they only take cash?) Bring a book, newspaper, or just some guilty pleasure magazine and your iPod. Heaven! It's supposed to be raining a lot, otherwise I would suggest taking your dessert to the park. A movie sounds great too - if you see Made of Honor though, you may need to claw your eyes out. Maybe Pearl River or some artsy store, or even the Met or Cloisters.
    Have fun!

  6. I'd wander through the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, hit up all the fun shops on 5th and 7th in Park Slope, treat yourself to Grimaldi's pizza and Brooklyn Ice Cream, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, catch a late movie on the UWS, and beforehand, grab a Beard Papa's cream puff to eat during the movie while sprinkling powdered sugar all over yourself in the dark. Then come home, unzip your pants to make room for all that food, and pass out. Dang, I want a day off.
