My New Vice

I don't know if you can call something that's good for you a vice, but I am. My friend Kendra introduced me to my new favorite snack....and it's healthy. In a good way. Not in a oh-I'm-just-munching-on-baby-carrots-trying-to-be-healthy-but-we-all-
know-I'm-going-to-down-a-pint-of-Ben-and-Jerry's-later-anyway-so-whats-
the-point sort of way. I actually crave them (unlike baby carrots). It's Edamame and it's here to stay. (OK that was lame).

Edamame are immature soybeans. You can find these in the frozen food section--just boil for 4-5 minutes and you're done. Enjoy them hot or cold with just a dash of salt (you have to shell them, the pod isn't edible). You might be thinking "Why those look just like peas in a pod. Booor-ring." But you'd be wrong. Actually, I guess you'd be right--they do look like peas, but they don't taste like them. They have a delicious buttery taste and they're actually quite filling. And so healthy. So if you like to snack all day like I do, this is a great way to give yourself a healthy alternative.

  6. About 2 years ago I went on this whole edamame binge and craved them at all times. They were my absolute favorite snack and I would go to the grocery store and stock up for 2 weeks at a time. Then one day I just couldn't eat them anymore. I think I over did it. Beware! Don't eat them like I did or it might happen to you too. ;)
