Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

I just received a somber email from an old friend relating the heartbreaking story of their infant daughter who recently passed away. She died 2 days after her birth and apparently she was born with some serious medical problems (as opposed to complications relating to childbirth itself). It sounds like they had a great doctor who put them in touch with a wonderful non-profit organization called Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. In my friends words, "This nationwide organization provides the most wonderful service to parents who have stillborn or critically ill infants. Professional photographers volunteer their time to take photographs of stillborn or critically ill child at no cost to the family...The photographs are beautiful and are some of the only tangible memories we will have of our first little girl. We were given a DVD with all the pictures she took put to music and a CD with all the pictures on it so we could print them out."

I just wanted to share this service for any of you out there that may be in a similar situation, or have friends or family in a similar situation. I think this is such a wonderful idea and a beautiful service. I'm always inspired when I hear about people using their talents in such charitable ways.

  1. I saw your blog on Kendra's. This is a wonderful organization. They helped out some family members of ours with some pictures a few years ago. I'm glad your friends were able to have access to their services so they can have some photos of their precious baby. I know it meant a lot to our family members, too.

  2. I've heard of this.... what a rough thing to go through though. I know that when Max was in the NICU for the first week of his life I was a wreck. Any kind of support is so much appreciated. My prayers are with your friend.
