Blog Blogity Blog

Lately I seem to have lots to post about at the beginning of the week, but just lose steam as the week goes by. So I'm forcing myself to blog. Probably a bad idea...probably not worth reading. Feel free to spend your time more wisely perusing more thoughtful blogs. But if you stick around I'll try to come up with some interesting tid bits....Oh here's one. So today, on our morning walk, I look down to see that Beanie has a little something in her pincer grasp. A booger. Lovely. I immediately snatch it from her hands (cuz it was headed towards her mouth) and try to dispose of it. Not an easy task--those little suckers are sticky you know. And it got me thinking about things I thought were gross when I didn't have kids, but don't bother me now that I do have a kid. Boogers, being on that list. I do NOT grab other people's boogers, and the thought of moms handling their kids boogers was always sickening to me. It kinds still is.... but somehow I'm not grossed out by grabbing my baby's boogers. I know...so cliche. I can just hear collective chorus of moms chiding "it's different when it's your own baby" ringing in my ears. So true. Another thing, baby food. It's not as disgusting as it looks. Some of it even tastes pretty good. AND I know I had a conversation about this topic recently with a couple who told me that they practically dry-heaved when watching a mom eat a Nutrigrain bar that was stuck to her baby's face and I sorta pretended that was super gross and of course even I wouldn't do that... but the truth is, it doesn't seem that gross to me. I haven't actually done that yet, but I wouldn't put it past me. Sorry friends (you know who you are) I should have been more honest...I am one of those moms. And even diaper changing. Don't get me wrong poop is still gross--yes even MY baby's poop--and I certainly wouldn't handle the stuff (on purpose). But changing a dirty diaper in general isn't so bad. It is interesting how other baby's dirty diapers seem to smell much more wretched than my own baby's dirty diaper. But again, just to be clear, I still think all poop is gross. I'm sure there are more things along this line I could go on about, but I I think that covers most of it.

I don't have any recent pictures of the bean uploaded to my computer except for a couple spontaneous Christmas pictures. So enjoy until I get more up soon.

  2. I overheard a young single girl saying, "I don't do snot; it grosses me out." I felt like the mouthy mother who replied, "Oh, you'll wipe snotty noses; you'll even wipe them with your bare hands!" She'll see, huh? PS Actual canned baby food seemed grosser to me after I had a baby. Luckily, Josephine wasn't too keen on it either; she would rather eat what we're eating.

I like the idea of these, but in practice...how? You wash them in a washing machine and dryer? Maybe this wouldn't be gross as a mom? What say you?

  5. I completely agree about the whole boogers and diapers thing. My sister that lives with us is sooo grossed out by kids drooling, which is funny to me because I never thought of it as gross (if it's from a kid anyway!)

  6. Funny. I was just talking about baby poop to my husband a few days ago. He said that there is something hormonal about the smells of it that make it not so disgusting (because it's your kin, I guess) and that's why changing other kid's stinky diapers gross you out more. Disgusting subject, I know, but interesting, nonetheless.
