Movie Review: Waitress

I wish I could say I hated this movie, but I didn't. . . I might even love it. Yes the fact that infidelity plays a large part in this film bothered me, but I still like it. It's a story of a small town waitress (who happens to be an amazing pie maker) who hates her husband and suddenly feels more stuck than ever with the discovery of an unwanted pregnancy. The film stars Kerri Russel (who I first had a girl crush on in her role as tv's Felicity) and let me tell you she's good. Real good. It co-starts Sheryl Hines, Andy Griffith and Adrienne Shelly, who wrote and directed the film and (in a sad and interesting side note) was tragically murdered in an NYC apartment shortly before the films acceptance to the Sundance Film Festival. Anyway, it's a sweet little movie...it's funny, poignant, and real. I don't want to give it away but the ending really got me... I'll just say the mom in me loved it.

  3. I'm glad you gave a review on this one. I wanted to see it from the previews, but it could have easily been a bust, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to waste a Netflix rental on it. Now I'll be sure to see it!

  4. ha - so funny. i just watched that movie last night. funny thing is, i couldn't get through more than 30 minutes of it the first time i saw it. their marital situation wasn't convincing enough and i was distracted by the acting. my mom made me give it another try and i was pleasantly surprised. i love the bird's eye shots of all the pies throughout the movie.

  5. Az and Leo--glad you both agree. Makes my case stronger.

Britty--I actually thought of you for some reason...it just seemed like a movie you would like. But you have to see it through to the end. . . a lot of the movie is sorta depressing.

skt--so glad you finished it! how are you btw?

  6. Nice review. I need to see this. My sister really liked this movie. My wife and I saw Juno the other day. It was a little crass at first, but toned down and ended up being a great movie.
