The Best Compliment

So the other week B, the babe and I were on the train. We were just enjoying our daughter in all her cuteness and in general having an enjoyable time. During one of the stops a man was getting off the train, before he stepped off he leaned over to us and said, "You two are the happiest people on this entire train and it made the commute all that more enjoyable for me. Thanks." We were totally caught off guard with his sincerity and for sharing his sentiment with us. We of course thanked him in return for such kind words and afterwards we just sorta sat there for a while basking in the glow of that compliment . . . I think that is one of the nicest compliments I've ever received.

It's great to realize that just being happy can have a positive effect on others. Additionally, the fact that he shared this compliment with us made us all the more happy when he could have just as easily kept that thought to himself. Good lessons learned all around.

  1. Love it. You guys totally are bright shiny happy people. I was reading something, don't remember what, that talked about the compliments we give one another and how usually they focus on how we look, or our clothes, and made the suggestion that we compliment people on other things like talents, or how happy or calm we look, and so on....I really liked this idea, because then the person getting the compliment feels good about themselves, and not just good about their appearance. Don't get me wrong, I think we all like hearing we look nice, I just really love that compliment. I think they're completely right. You guys are spreading awesomeness all over NYC.

  2. WOW. Just makes you think, doesn't it?
    I love it.
