Recipe of the Year

Occasionally I like to bake, and the best recipe to cross my path in a long while is the one I'm about to share with you. Given me by a ward member, this simple recipe delivers the most ambrosial cinnamon rolls right to your mouth less than an hour from the craving entering your head. No kidding, less than 60 minutes. Go ahead and try it, you won't be disappointed.

1 1/2 cups warm water
1/2 cup oil
1/4 cup sugar
2 Tbsp yeast
1/2 Tbsp salt

Mix these ingredients together and let sit for about 10 minutes, until frothy.

Add 1 large egg, beaten. Then add about 5 cups of flour- enough to make a good dough.

Turn out onto a board and knead a little until dough feels good. Roll out the dough and spread cinnamon mixture:

1/2 cup butter, melted
3/4 cups sugar
6 heaping teaspoons of cinnamon

Roll up. Cut & place on greased pan. Let rise about 10 minutes, then bake for 10 minutes at 425 F.

Frost while still warm, but NOT hot!
3 Tbsp butter, melted
2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1/8 cup milk
3/4 tsp vanilla
orange zest (optional)

Let me know how it goes. Any other amazing recipes to share?

  1. what?!?! you're sharing my recipe with the WORLD?! now i can't impress anyone with the one item I can actually bake well... (sigh) :) guess my secret's out.

  2. Since I am obsessed with the bread recipe you posted a few months back, I will DEFINITELY be trying these rolls. Thanks guys!

  3. I just made them today--fabulous and easy! Thanks for letting the secret out so the rest of us can benefit!

Since I'm in Seattle I'll just have to start impressing everyone here.

Cinnamon rolls are one of my favorite, but they are time consuming so back in NY, whenever our home teachers asked what they could do for us, I would ask them to make us cinnamon rolls (Only one took me up on my offer). With this recipe I don't have to ask any more =)
