Seminary Wrap Up

Last September I started teaching early morning seminary. You may remember me blogging about it here. As per my own experience with early morning seminary when I was a youngster, I had low expectations and although I was trying to be optimistic I was pretty bummed about the task that lay ahead. It's early morning plus teenagers. Not just any teenagers. . . teenagers in New York City. I've seen a few movies in my day, I know what inner city kids are supposed to be like. (Dangerous Minds anyone?) I thought it would be rough trying to teach anything to these teenagers that early in the morning . . . let alone teaching them about religion. Again, my expectations were low.

My first seminary blog was about getting dissed (dissed: show disrespect for; affront). The dissing incident wasn't that bad--in fact it was rather funny in hindsight (but still somewhat disheartening in the moment). I assumed this would be happening quite a bit. So I figured I'd blog about it. . . laugh it off and share these funny experiences with others. Well, my first blog about getting dissed was my last blog about getting dissed. . . turns out I had some really great kids on my hands. I really grew to love these kids, and I think they even kinda liked me back.

Yesterday was my last day of teaching and although it wasn't always easy, I can honestly say I'm glad I did it. They are really good kids. They stayed awake (a feat in and of itself), they sang hymns, answered questions, and even participated in my cheesy object lessons. And as a going away present to me yesterday they ALL came (which is rare) and even baked me a cake. Awwwwww. . .

Anyway, I just wanted to give a little shout out to my seminary homies. Thanks for the good times.

  1. sweet calling. my brother in law matt had that same calling up in your ward before they moved out west a couple of years ago

  2. Hey - I found your blog through Tiffany. Just wanted to sympathize with both your pre and post seminary feelings. I even saw a video the other day of the kids and really missed them. ANyway, hope things go well with the baby,
