Best. Surprise. Eva!

So this past Christmas vacation turned out to be a little more than I bargained for. . . in a good way. Since B and I were leaving on the 2nd, we had set aside the 1st, New Years Day, for hanging out with our friends. He wanted to hang out with his BFF and have some "quality alone time." So I decided to round up some of my girl friends and do the same. . . or so I thought.

Really, there was a sinister plot put in motion weeks before. . . the likes of which I was not privy to. After going out to dinner with some of my girlfriends, we decided to head back to my in-laws house and visit for a while longer. . . upon entering the house I notice some black streamers hanging in the front hallway. I'm busily chatting away about something or another and I comment "that's strange. . . I wonder what these are for?" Suddenly, out of nowhere, faces from various aspects of my life pop out all at once and everyone yells SUPRISE!!!!!!

Confusion. Utter confusion. I had NO idea what was going on.

My loving husband steps out in a dark suit and announces that we're here to celebrate the death of my youth. . . a funeral themed surprise party for my 30th birthday. I was totally dumbfounded--especially since my birthday was still a week away (in case you're wondering). I had absolutely NO idea. He did a great job and caught me completely off guard. It was the best (and pretty much only) surprise party I've had. And to think he had been working on this and planning this for weeks. So sweet.

So here's how it went down. . . weeks before he sent out these handmade, postcard invites to close by friends and family. So clever. (I covered names, addresses, etc.)

Now here are some pics of the festivities. (Unfortunately I had the camera with me so there aren't any pics of the shock on my face when I walked in).

Me and the main accomplices. . . B's aforementioned BFF on the right. . . he's unattached ladies. wink wink.

My brother looking a little stoned (don't worry, he's not).

2 of my girlfriends who were in on the plot. (The one on the left is available FYI . . . ).

The girls. . . 2 of the best friends a girl could have. (ahem . . . both are available. . .).

One of my little bros with the niece. She used to be scared of him . . . glad she's warmed up.

The fam.

My niece giving me her very special birthday present that she made for me ALL BY HERSELF. Soooooo cute. It's a necklace and I love it! Another BFF in the background. . . (sorry, not available).

My old slave driver. . . er boss. So cool to see EMS and the Mrs. there.

B delivering "the eulogy."

Someone talked me into performing one last cheer . . . being one to never shy away from the spotlight I conceded. However, being as prego as I am my high kicks aren't what they used to be. (yeah I was a cheerleader in HS. fo reals).

Blowing out the candles on my coffin cake. (With my father in law in the background)

I'm sad we didn't get any good pics of my in laws who did so much to help out with this event as well. Thanks you both. And thanks to everyone else who came. It was really special to see so many unexpected people there and to have the love and support of my family and friends. I commented later how strange it was to see people from various parts of my life, people who usually never come in contact with each other, all together in one room--good friends, family, co-workers, etc--it felt like it was a preview of what it must be like to really die and have people waiting for you on the other side. . . I don't think B intended it that way, but the funeral theme was . . . dead on. mwah ha ha ha. . . I loved it. Thanks hon.

  1. NO FAIR! I wish I were there. You really have a thoughtful hubby, "A". And happy birthday you big girl. I'm glad you're still with us.

  2. SO FUN! Happy Birthday!

I took a closer look at B's BFF. I didn't realize that Spooner is his sister-in-law, AND that his sister and her hubby are in my ward. Cracks me up.

  3. Yep--related to Spooner. He's a good guy. . . now lets find him a wife!

  4. Hey Britty! We need to catch up . . . if you check this post again.

  5. Amy, how darling is your husband to throw such an amazing surprise party for you? so cute.

Did we know about our Broek (is that how you spell it? I know it's different than normal) mutual connection as well? She was my visiting teacher when I lived in Millrace. She gave me an inflatable floaty pool ring to sit on after I cracked my tailbone snowboarding. Love that girl.

  6. Yes--I think the Broek connection was the only one I was actually aware of. She's a gem. OK let's make a quick list of our connections . . . just for fun:

    Scott H
    Joanna and those girls ...
    Dan Lang.

    Who else?

  7. aw you guys are so cute! It's been awhile since I've visited your site. Happy happy birthday. Brack is a good husband!
And congrats with the baby! I love that you post all the cute unaffordable things. You're too funny. And I'm glad to see that Broek is looking hot as ever!
    love, hyeku
